Commission / Custom Artwork Policy

ArtByJohnte offers select custom and commissioned artwork services. This policy outlines expectations, timelines, payments, and rights for custom projects.

1. Consultation Process

All custom artwork begins with a consultation discussing:

  • Size

  • Medium

  • Style direction

  • Color palette

  • Subject matter

  • Deadline

  • Budget

Projects are accepted at the artist’s discretion.

2. Pricing & Deposits

Custom work pricing varies based on scope, size, complexity, and timeline.

To begin a commission:

  • A non-refundable deposit of 50% may be required

  • Work will not begin until the deposit is received

  • Remaining balance is due before shipment or delivery

Rush projects may require additional fees.

3. Creative Interpretation

Clients are encouraged to provide inspiration and direction; however, all commissioned work remains an original artistic interpretation by the artist.

Exact duplication of another artwork, photograph, or prior piece is not guaranteed.

4. Revisions

Reasonable progress revisions may be allowed during creation.

Unless otherwise agreed:

  • Up to 2 minor revisions may be included

  • Major redesigns or concept changes may incur additional fees

  • Excessive revisions may delay completion

5. Timeline

Completion estimates are provided in good faith but may vary depending on workload, drying time, materials, or creative process.

Delays do not automatically qualify for refunds.

6. Final Payment & Delivery

Final payment must be completed before:

  • Shipment

  • Delivery

  • Transfer of digital files (if applicable)

Shipping charges may be separate unless stated otherwise.

7. Cancellations

If the client cancels after work has started:

  • Deposits remain non-refundable

  • Additional completed labor or materials may be billed

If the artist must cancel, amounts paid beyond completed work may be refunded at discretion.

8. Copyright & Usage Rights

Unless explicitly transferred in writing:

  • ArtByJohnte retains copyright ownership

  • Clients receive ownership of the purchased final piece only

  • Reproduction or commercial use requires written permission

9. Portfolio Use

The artist reserves the right to photograph, display, and promote commissioned work in portfolios, social media, exhibitions, and marketing unless a confidentiality agreement is made in advance.
